A well-established heavy equipment organization is seeking an experienced Service Manager based in Oregon to lead the day-to-day operations of its Service Department. This position will oversee technicians, workflow, work orders, repair quality, and customer service while ensuring equipment is repaired safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong heavy equipment service background, hands-on technical knowledge, and previous experience leading technicians in a dealership, distributor, or similar equipment environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support service technicians and apprentices.
  • Schedule and assign repair work based on technician skill level, workload, and customer priorities.
  • Manage daily shop workflow to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and on schedule.
  • Review work orders for accuracy, including labor, parts, materials, and repair documentation.
  • Oversee the setup of new equipment and reconditioning of used equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues alongside technicians and provide technical guidance when needed.
  • Ensure completed repairs meet quality standards before equipment is released to customers.
  • Coordinate warranty repairs and ensure proper documentation and procedures are followed.
  • Develop technicians through hands-on coaching, training, and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Communicate with customers and internal leadership regarding repair status, service concerns, and escalated issues.
  • Monitor department performance and prepare service-related reports and documentation.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop while enforcing company safety policies and procedures.
  • Stay current on equipment technology, diagnostics, and manufacturer service requirements.

 

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of heavy equipment service, repair, or maintenance experience.
  • Previous service management, supervisory, shop foreman, or lead technician experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and equipment diagnostics.
  • Experience managing technicians, work orders, workflow, and repair quality.
  • Familiarity with equipment warranty processes and service documentation.
  • Strong leadership, organization, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable using service management/work order systems and Microsoft Office.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; diesel, heavy equipment, or related technical training preferred.
  • Manufacturer-specific equipment training or certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to occasionally travel for training, customer support, or site visits.
