Position Details & Responsibilities

A growing equipment rental organization is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead operations at its location in Eastern Iowa. This leadership role is responsible for driving the overall performance of a nationwide rental business, overseeing operations, sales, customer service, fleet management, and strategic growth initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for a results-driven leader who enjoys building teams, improving operational performance, and developing new business partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a strong operational background, experience managing multiple departments, and the ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement.

Candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Eastern Iowa location.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of a nationwide equipment rental business while driving profitability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction
  • Manage sales, marketing, fleet operations, customer service, and financial performance, including full P&L responsibility
  • Develop and execute strategies to grow revenue, improve market presence, and strengthen customer relationships
  • Build partnerships with independent dealers and support the successful launch of new branch locations and rental partners throughout North America
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of managers and sales professionals while fostering accountability and collaboration
  • Oversee fleet utilization, equipment availability, and operational processes to maximize performance across multiple locations
  • Work cross-functionally within a matrix organization to align operations, finance, HR, marketing, and service initiatives
  • Establish operational standards, monitor key performance metrics, and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Travel to customer locations, dealer partners, and branch operations to support growth opportunities and strengthen relationships
  • Promote a culture centered around responsiveness, urgency, customer service, and operational excellence

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience as a General Manager, Operations Manager, Regional Manager, or similar executive-level role
  • Strong background within equipment rental, heavy equipment, construction equipment, trucking, specialty transportation, industrial equipment, or a related industry
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-department operations with full P&L responsibility
  • Experience leading sales, operations, customer service, and fleet management functions
  • Proven ability to build teams, manage strong personalities, and create a culture of accountability
  • Experience working within a matrix organization and collaborating across multiple business functions
  • Strong business development skills with the ability to establish strategic partnerships and support company expansion
  • Excellent communication, leadership, financial, and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% throughout North America
