A growing industrial distribution organization is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead its purchasing and sourcing operations at its North Texas distribution center. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing a team of buyers while managing inventory procurement, supplier relationships, and strategic sourcing initiatives that support a nationwide distribution network.

The ideal candidate will have a strong purchasing background, proven leadership experience, and the ability to use data, market trends, and supplier partnerships to improve inventory availability, reduce costs, and drive operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the purchasing team while overseeing daily procurement activities and supplier performance
  • Manage inventory purchasing to ensure product availability and minimize backorders across multiple distribution channels
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers while negotiating pricing, contracts, and favorable purchasing terms
  • Analyze inventory trends, forecasting data, and market conditions to make strategic purchasing decisions
  • Partner with internal teams to introduce new products, manage product life cycles, and optimize inventory levels
  • Monitor supplier performance through scorecards, KPI reporting, and regular business reviews
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing costs, inventory efficiency, and overall supply chain performance
  • Oversee vendor management, product setup, inventory maintenance, and purchasing system accuracy
  • Maintain multiple sourcing options for key products to reduce supply risk and improve service levels
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives while supporting company growth and operational excellence

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing, sourcing, or procurement experience within an industrial, manufacturing, MRO, distribution, or related environment
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience managing buyers or purchasing teams
  • Strong experience negotiating supplier contracts and improving purchasing costs
  • Knowledge of inventory planning, forecasting, supplier management, and procurement best practices
  • Experience working with ERP, MRP, WMS, or other inventory management systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical and reporting abilities
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Professional purchasing or supply chain certifications are a plus
