Position Details & Responsibilities

A leading material handling equipment dealership is seeking an experienced Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of its service shop in Central New Jersey. This leadership role is responsible for managing technician productivity, coordinating workflow, maintaining customer satisfaction, and ensuring efficient shop operations while supporting the overall success of the service department.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the forklift, material handling, heavy equipment, or related equipment industry and possess strong leadership, organizational, and customer service skills. Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the service shop, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor technician workloads to maximize productivity and quality
  • Lead, coach, and develop shop technicians while promoting a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Coordinate staffing schedules, overtime, vacations, and shop resources to maintain efficient operations
  • Oversee repairs, preventative maintenance, customer equipment, and rental fleet service activities
  • Monitor work-in-process and repair schedules to ensure timely completion and maximize department profitability
  • Communicate regularly with customers regarding repair status, estimates, scheduling, and service recommendations
  • Prepare and review repair estimates, work orders, warranty claims, and supporting service documentation
  • Coordinate with the Parts Department to ensure timely parts availability and efficient repair completion
  • Partner with the Sales and Rental departments to support equipment preparation and customer deliveries
  • Maintain shop equipment, service vehicles, specialty tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA regulations while maintaining a clean, organized work environment
  • Build strong relationships with customers, vendors, and OEM partners to support long-term service success
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and developing service personnel
  • Monitor departmental expenses, labor efficiency, and key performance indicators to achieve financial and operational goals

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience within the forklift, material handling, heavy equipment, construction equipment, or related equipment industry
  • Strong knowledge of equipment service operations, repair processes, and technician workflow management
  • Previous experience supervising technicians and coordinating shop operations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and customer relationship skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience utilizing service management software, work order systems, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
