Position Details & Responsibilities

A leading material handling equipment dealership is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to oversee shop operations in Central New Jersey. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for supervising shop technicians, coordinating workflow, and ensuring high-quality repairs on forklifts and other material handling equipment.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled technician with extensive experience diagnosing and repairing forklifts or heavy equipment who is ready to lead by example, mentor technicians, and help drive shop productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of the shop by assigning work, prioritizing repairs, and managing technician workflow
  • Provide technical guidance and support to technicians while assisting with complex diagnostics and repairs
  • Perform advanced repairs on forklifts and material handling equipment, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and drive components
  • Diagnose and repair electric forklifts, battery systems, chargers, and complex electrical and wiring issues
  • Conduct quality inspections on completed repairs to ensure work meets company and manufacturer standards
  • Complete preventative maintenance and repair assignments accurately and within established timeframes
  • Utilize diagnostic software, electronic service tools, and computerized work order systems to troubleshoot equipment
  • Promote a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment while maintaining high standards of workmanship
  • Communicate repair recommendations and equipment status with management, service advisors, and customers as needed
  • Mentor and develop technicians by providing training, coaching, and technical support

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience diagnosing and repairing forklifts, material handling equipment, heavy equipment, or related machinery
  • Previous experience as a Shop Foreman, Lead Technician, or senior-level technician preferred
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting skills
  • Experience performing major component repairs, including engine rebuilds, transmission repairs, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics
  • Proficiency using computerized diagnostic tools, digital work order systems, and service software
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently while leading a team in a fast-paced service environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical demands associated with equipment repair
  • Valid driver's license preferred
