Position Details & Responsibilities

A growing equipment and rental organization is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations across multiple branch locations in Northern California. This is a highly visible role within a smaller, fast-paced company where the ideal candidate must be comfortable wearing multiple hats and supporting a wide range of accounting, finance, and operational responsibilities.

This position is primarily remote but will require regular travel to branch locations throughout the Northern California region. Candidates should reside within reasonable proximity to the territory.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting and financial operations across multiple branch locations
  • Manage payroll processing and payroll-related reporting
  • Prepare financial statements, month-end reporting, and management reports
  • Handle sales tax reporting, filings, and compliance activities
  • Monitor inventory reporting and assist with inventory reconciliation processes
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and cash flow activities
  • Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Support operational teams with reporting, financial analysis, and process improvements
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and compliance with accounting standards and internal procedures
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals as needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and financial visibility
  • Provide hands-on support across various administrative and financial functions as needed in a growing business environment

Qualifications

 

  • Strong accounting and financial management background required
  • Prior experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior-level accounting role preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities within a small company environment
  • Experience handling payroll, financial reporting, sales tax, and general accounting functions required
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial operations
  • Inventory accounting or equipment industry experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize, and wear multiple hats in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong computer and accounting software proficiency required
  • Experience within rental, construction, equipment, or service-related industries is a plus
