A well-established construction equipment dealer is seeking a Service Manager to lead its service operations in the Greater Hartford, Connecticut region. This organization supports contractors in the heavy highway, concrete, excavation, utility, and construction markets with a wide range of equipment, parts, and service solutions.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily service operations, supporting technicians, maintaining strong customer relationships, and driving departmental performance. The ideal candidate will bring equipment service experience, strong leadership skills, and a passion for developing people and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily service department operations, including scheduling, workflow management, and repair quality
  • Lead, coach, and support technicians to ensure productivity, accountability, and professional development
  • Monitor work orders, labor efficiency, and repair timelines to maximize customer uptime
  • Maintain strong communication with customers regarding equipment repairs, service recommendations, and job status updates
  • Work closely with parts, sales, and rental departments to ensure seamless customer support
  • Manage service department profitability, labor recovery, and operational performance metrics
  • Ensure repairs are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company and manufacturer standards
  • Support technician recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency, processes, and overall customer satisfaction
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning for the service department

Qualifications

  • Prior experience managing service operations within the construction equipment, compact equipment, heavy equipment, rental, or related industries required
  • Strong technical understanding of equipment diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance practices
  • Proven leadership experience managing technicians and service personnel
  • Strong communication and customer relationship skills
  • Experience managing service profitability, labor efficiency, and departmental performance metrics
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with service management software, business systems, and Microsoft Office
