Position Details & Responsibilities

Star Equipment has immediate opening for an assistant rental manger in our Des Moines, Iowa office, 1401 2nd Ave. Star is a 57 year old Iowa company, with four locations working construction and industrial business in and around Iowa. Star has over 3000 pieces of rental equipment in our rental fleet, and it is constantly on the move between branch locations and customer jobsites. Our equipment lineup includes Gehl, Manitou, Takeuchi, Multiquip, and Husqvarna.

We are looking for a special person to help with the continually increasing customer traffic, customer contracts, and coordinate equipment movements. Our assistant manager will need to be quick on their feet, learn fast, have great communication skills, be mechanically minded and a have desire to learn continuously about the construction industry.

Responsibilities

• Handle and sell to customers courteously and professionally.
• Obtain as much information to provide the proper equipment. Be able to sell rental in person and over the phone
• Make rental contracts accurately and timely. Maintain proper filing of paperwork
• Organize delivery schedule and dispatch delivery trucks making the most efficient use of their time. Be able to make deliveries when need be
• Be aware of equipment availability and condition; analyze general condition of equipment. If maintenance is needed delegate to rental yard personnel or service department
• Follow up with service and parts departments to keep lead times on down machines
• Coordinate weekly truck run with other locations. Make sure priority equipment goes and all paperwork gets processed.
• Know application of rental equipment and be able to troubleshoot customers over the phone
• Assist in training and supervising rental personnel
• Checking in and out safety instructions with customers. Handle customer damage problems promptly and professionally
• Coordinate with sales department for equipment demos and predelivery
• Study and upgrade your knowledge of equipment
• Maintain housekeeping of rental department. Clean office, shop, and grounds

Qualifications

• Management experience
• Be a self starter. See what needs to be done and do it
• Knowledge of construction equipment operation and application
• Be able to organize and motivate personnel
• Ability to handle customers courteously and professionally
• Clean driving record
• Able to lift 100 lbs.
• Computer experience
• Logistics experience
