A well-established commercial trailer dealership in Central New Mexico is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to lead the day-to-day operations of its semi-trailer service shop. This is a hands-on leadership position overseeing a team of technicians while working closely with the Service Manager to maintain shop productivity, repair quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced trailer technician or shop leader who can diagnose complex repairs, organize workflow, and lead from the floor. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys being hands-on while helping develop and support a growing service team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the daily workflow of approximately eight service technicians.
  • Schedule and assign repair orders based on technician skill, workload, priority, and promised completion dates.
  • Serve as a working foreman, assisting with diagnostics and complex repairs when needed.
  • Troubleshoot semi-trailer systems including brakes, air systems, ABS, suspension, axles, electrical systems, landing gear, and structural components.
  • Oversee trailer inspections, preventative maintenance, body and structural repairs, welding, fabrication, and specialty work.
  • Monitor work in progress and address delays related to parts, approvals, scheduling, or technical issues.
  • Coordinate closely with the Parts Department to ensure technicians have the components needed to complete repairs efficiently.
  • Review repair orders and estimates for accurate labor, parts, warranty information, and documentation.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet company, OEM, and DOT standards before equipment is released.
  • Coach technicians on repair procedures, productivity, quality, and safe work practices.
  • Help train and develop newer technicians while promoting teamwork and accountability.
  • Monitor technician efficiency, sold hours, comeback rates, WIP, and on-time completion.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop and yard.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of heavy-duty trailer repair experience required.
  • 2–3+ years of Shop Foreman, Lead Technician, or similar leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of trailer brake, air, ABS, suspension, electrical, and structural systems.
  • Welding and fabrication experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with semi-trailers, truck bodies, or related heavy-duty equipment.
  • Experience with Great Dane, Thermo King, Carrier, or similar equipment is a plus.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and dealership/service management systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organization, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Team-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a developing technician team.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL and industry certifications are a plus.
