Position Details & Responsibilities

A growing heavy civil and earthwork construction organization is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead safety initiatives across multiple job sites and states. Based in the Dallas-Forth Worth area of Texas, this hands-on role will work closely with field leadership and crews to strengthen safety processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive culture of accountability.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in earthwork, excavation, grading, heavy equipment, or heavy civil construction and is comfortable spending significant time in the field. Regular travel to project sites, including out-of-state travel, is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety programs and compliance efforts across multiple construction projects and states.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Conduct jobsite inspections, audits, risk assessments, and hazard evaluations.
• Develop and improve safety policies, procedures, checklists, reporting systems, and accountability measures.
• Partner with project managers, superintendents, foremen, mechanics, and field crews to address safety concerns.
• Lead incident and near-miss investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training, orientations, toolbox talks, and supervisor training.
• Provide guidance on excavation and trenching, heavy equipment, traffic control, PPE, LOTO, heat illness prevention, and other construction hazards.
• Review JHAs, AHAs, and site-specific safety plans.
• Track safety metrics, training records, certifications, and regulatory documentation.
• Support workers' compensation and claims management as needed.
• Travel regularly to active jobsites, including periodic out-of-state travel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction safety experience, preferably within earthwork, heavy civil, grading, excavation, utilities, or heavy equipment operations.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and field safety practices.
• OSHA 30 or equivalent construction safety training required.
• Bachelor's degree in Safety, Construction Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field preferred.
• ASP, CSP, CHST, or similar safety certification preferred.
• Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements related to construction trucking and fleet operations preferred.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, audits, and employee training.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to coach field teams while maintaining accountability.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly.
