Thriving aerial equipment re-rental company is seeking a highly motivated individual for a full-time shop manager position.

Are you an individual who gets fired up about leading a small team and helping each team member grow?  Would you enjoy getting a repair shop better organized, efficiently functional, and growing?  Do you enjoy working with MEWPs (mobile elevated work platforms) - large boom lifts, spider lifts, and heavy-capacity telehandlers?  Consider joining USM ReRents as a Repair Shop Manager in Cleburne, TX!

You will manage the day-to-day functioning of our equipment service department, planning and overseeing service & repairs at our yard / shop, directing the work of technicians in the shop, scheduling work, and communicating with fleet and rental operations management and with sales staff.  You`ll establish efficient procedure, improve & install processes, and help build future business strategy.

Position responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and hold shop personnel accountable
  • Ensure diagnostic, repair and preventive maintenance work is performed in a safe & proficient manner.  Champion shop safety procedure.
  • Maintain repair & work schedules to ensure Fleet Service needs are met
  • Communicate daily with Fleet (and/or) Operations on rental asset repairs and their status
  • Establish positive systems and relations between the repair shop and ReRental Operations, Accounting, Sales, and all company departments.
  • Ensure technicians have the training and tools needed to perform work
  • Review work orders and their status
  • Monitor and analyze opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Conduct pre-shift team meetings with shop staff
  • Best prioritize repairs of equipment assets with company needs
  • Ensure equipment assets/machines transported to Cleburne gain needed inspections (ANSI or otherwise)
  • Make informed judgements on equipment condition (age? damage? parts/labor needed?  fit for Re-Rent? fix & sell? scrap it?) and effectively communicate said information to Fleet Service Manager; discuss options.
  • Lead the Cleburne team.  Evaluate, interview, and select job candidates for hire.  Manage performance of existing staff.  Arrange for employee training where needed.

The Shop Manager will also engage in parts procurement (until a parts person is hired),  create purchase orders, research/negotiate pricing, and source common parts from OEMs.  He/She will close work orders and generate billing. Complete various reports (shop labor, job efficiency inspection tracking, etc.).  He/She will oversee inventory functions (minimize obsolescence or out of-stock situations, ensure inventory (including parts) is accurately accounted for).

  • Experience working with large aerial equipment (ultra-booms and telehandlers, etc.)
  • Previous employee management/supervision, ideally in a technician shop environment
  • Mechanical skill sets (in hydraulics, electrical troubleshooting & repair, engine maintenance & repair, etc.), not to turn wrenches, but to evaluate the work of equipment mechanics
