Position Details & Responsibilities
All of PPI's generator technicians are "road techs” or “field service technicians." 99% of work performed will be on stationary power generation equipment at customer locations. The mechanic will be given a company van (to take home if parking is available),and will be dispatched directly to job sites most days.
The mechanic will be assigned work orders on their phone via cloud-based software and be expected to complete work orders thoroughly and promptly upon each job’s completion.
Primarily, the generator mechanic will be responsible for light commercial minor and major preventative maintenance.
Some residential preventative maintenance will be requiredofthis position.
A generator technician will be responsible for entry to mid-level electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
They will also perform mid to high-level mechanical repairs on diesel and natural gas engines.
The generator mechanic will be trained on startup and expected to provide startup assistance to senior technicians when needed.
The generator mechanic will be trained on load banking and expected to perform load bank testing unsupervised within one year.
They will be expected to perform standby services on weekends as needed.
The mechanic will be expected to lead or assist on most major mechanical repairs on CAT, Cummins, John Deere, Mitsubishi, and GM engines, among others, ranging in size from 1.4L to 22L.
Located in the Greater New York City area, or willing to commute/relocate at own expense.
Must own tools appropriate for the position (to include multi-meter, hand-tools, etc.).
Minimum 6 years’ experience in diesel mechanic or power generation related industry.
Strong work ethic required.
Ability to manage time well and work independently.
Must participate in rotating on-call schedule once roughly every six weeks.
Must be available after-hours and on weekends to perform emergency service.
Must pass driving record check (perfect record not required), drug screen, and background check.
Intermediate to strong electrical troubleshooting skills.
Ability to perform heavy engine maintenance and repair as needed.
Technician must possess certification from at least one major engine manufacturer or relevant experience (such asmilitary).
Experience with load bank testing and familiarity with NFPA 110 and NFPA 99 requirements is a huge plus.
DOT/ OSHA 110 (general or construction)/ NFPA 70E certifications are a plus.
EGSA certification is a plus.
Prior military experience is a plus.
