Job Summary:

Herc Rentals Inc is looking for Product Manager - Fleet. The successful person will be part of a high energy team that manages traditional (Classic) and some emerging construction equipment rental fleet in terms of key supplier relationships, commercial terms management, best price negotiations, equipment specifications and OEM program & product support management.

A Herc Rentals Product Manager - Fleet will be part of the Fleet Supply Chain and Fleet Procurement team that supports field operations and is the liaison with Herc’s key supplier partners. Product Manager - Fleet will oversee the Oracle Item file setup and accuracy which is vital to success. Position assists procurement team with purchase order execution and item file maintenance in the areas of Construction Equipment for rental fleet. The main objective of this position is to manage key supplier relationship including overall program & pricing management to ensure greatest discounts and overall reduction of equipment lifecycle costs to maximize financial impact without sacrificing quality, value and service, while adhering to company policies and procedures, keeping in line with the company’s goals and objectives.


  • Manage assigned categories and associated supplier relationships from a total cost of ownership perspective
  • Negotiate and execute Supplier Agreements that includes best pricing and favorable terms to the company
  • Develop approved fleet models, equipment specifications and configurations based on equipment rental fleet requirements
  • OEM program management with focus on supply chain efficiency, equipment product support including Warranty and Parts programs as well as product marketing and field training
  • Develops ancillary products that complements equipment in terms of Consumables and Bulk Rentals items
  • Evaluate and develop procurement alternatives based upon long term spend objectives as determined by Herc Category Management or Senior Management.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to internal and external business partners and customers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal departments and suppliers.
  • Well versed and knowledge of specific agreements and contracts for assigned suppliers and categories.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, sensitively, and productively with people across all levels of management at Herc Rentals and within the supplier organizations.
  • Skilled negotiator with the proven ability to negotiate with suppliers and service providers
  • Extensive experience working with contract management and purchasing systems
  • Function independently within broadly defined direction, and ability to identify new areas of direction
  • Employ a disciplined process for defining, measuring and achieving desired results and objectives
  • Ability to work constructively under pressure
  • Possess a high level of commitment initiative and responsibility
  • Work and respond to inquiries from phone calls, emails and voicemails
  • Values diversity and is comfortable in dealing with different personalities and cultures


Required Professional Experience /Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree desired and MBA preferred. Certifications and relevant work experiences in construction equipment rental industry a plus.
  • Excellent understanding of fleet specifications and supply chain management & logistics.
  • Outstanding business acumen and knowledge around theory and practice of category management, fleet management, fleet operations, finance, accounting, IT and organizational behavior
  • Expertise in identification and development of new suppliers where required or assigned

Skills / Competencies:

  • Proficiency in the use of Oracle, Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Solid Project Management skills
  • Extensive experience working with contract management in ERP system that may include Oracle or SAP and experience and understanding of purchasing systems including Oracle, Wynne Rentalman and SmartEquip.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid independent problem solving abilities
  • Strong work ethic
  • High multi-tasks skills
